The Word is Out on OS Licensing for INSPIRE – Read Carefully

Ordnance Survey have recently confirmed licensing rules for INSPIRE data. Those who publish INSPIRE data need to adhere to 3 rules when supplying to 3rd parties. Here are the official rules for data requests.

• INSPIRE-compliant Licensed Data being supplied to third parties who are using that data for their personal, non-commercial use is covered by the INSPIRE End User Licence and so is subject to deemed accept terms (if ‘click to accept’ is not used).
• INSPIRE-compliant Licensed Data supplied to other members of the same public sector agreement (i.e. PSMA-PSMA member) who are not using that data for their personal, non-commercial use is covered by the Member Licence’s Data Sharing terms and the members must therefore record to whom it supplies the INSPIRE-compliant data.
• INSPIRE-compliant Licensed data supplied to non-members of the same agreement (i.e. PSMA-OSMA), or other third parties, who are not using the INSPIRE-compliant data for their personal, non-commercial use is covered by accepting the standard End User Licence; and again the member must record to whom it supplies the INSPIRE-compliant data.

So what do you have to do?
You need to know what camp each party request falls into and what information to capture from them. So, we suggest the easiest way is to create a landing page for your INSPIRE downloads to filter the data requests.
