The Data Team at ENWL needed to combine and transform huge volumes of network data into multiple spatial data formats. The output then needed to be sent to the supplier managing ENWL’s online mapping tool.
The process, repeated every month, was conducted manually using GIS software and SFTP connections. Between 3 and 5 days per month were required to complete the job.
Miso worked closely with ENWL to build a custom FME workspace. The workspace combines the network asset data, before translating it into the required formats (e.g. .tab, .shp). It then loads the outputs into a central location and transfers them across to the supplier, via an SFTP. Run on FME Server, the process is now fully automated, requiring little to no manual intervention.
During the project, Miso also delivered training and one-to-one mentoring sessions to enable ENWL to get more value from their data and ROI on their FME software.
The solution has dramatically reduced the time needed to complete the process, freeing-up employees to work on other tasks. Customer experience has also been enhanced as customers are now able to self-serve to receive a quotation and pay online. This is both saving costs and benefitting the business’ customer satisfaction score.
